09/16/2009 – Fishing Report – Ludington, Michigan
Captain George Freeman of Free Style Charters reports from Ludington, Michigan

Lake Michigan Salmon - Ludington
We fished south of Ludington today. My last few trips I’ve gone north hoping to catch some big four year old Kings. We have caught some, but not as many as we would like. The shallow water (40 – 50 feet) is holding a lot of fish, but the water is warm and the fish are biting for a very short period of time right at daybreak and at dark. If you don’t get them then it can be a long day.
There are some Steelhead and 2 & 3 year old Kings out deep off the Point, so all is not lost when the Kings shut off. We are supposed to get a NE wind and we are hoping this will get the remaining mature Kings to fire up. Today we fished in the 56’s and 54’s out to the 36’s. We found 2 & 3 year old Kings and some Lake Trout and Steelhead there. Most of our bites were on spoons, but we took the biggest King of the day on a 8″ Mountain Dew Spin Doctor/Green Mirage Strong Fly 80 feet down on the chute rigger. A 5 color core with a regular size Dreamweaver Beefeater took a couple of fish and a full core with a DW Chiznit was good too. We only had one diver bite. It was a 8″ Chrome Mountain Dew/Yellow No-See-Um Action Fly out 100 ft. on a low wire.
