09/16/2009 Lake Michigan Fishing Report – Southern
Capt. Dave Myers of Cyndie Sue Charters reports from Holland

Mixed Bag of Chinook
Fishing for the 4 year old kings seems to be about over. The good news is the abundance of smaller fish (Kings, steelhead, coho, and lake trout). These fish are very aggressive and will bite any time of the day. This is a normal fall fishery with all fish being caught on spoons from the surface down to 100 feet, anywhere from 130 to 280 feet of water. Catches for the last three trips were 21, 28, and 26 fish/trip. Even though the 2 & 3 year old kings are not very big, they are fun to catch and excellent eating. The steelhead and coho are big, averaging 8-11 pounds and they are a handful. The lake trout vary in size from less than legal (20 inches) to over 12 pounds.
The weather lately has been nice enough to allow us to run up to 16 lines. Most trips ever rod gets at least 1 fish. We have been running downriggers, dipsys, outriggers, full copper, full 10 color lead core, and high board lines. Magnum green Silver Streak and Moonshine glow spoons have been working best on the deep lines while regular size Pro-King, Dreamweaver, Northern King and Stinger/Stingray spoons in orange, red, yellow, green and raspberry produced on the higher lines.
We did not run any perch trips last week. It appears they have left the area for now. They should return in depths of 50 to 75 feet soon. We will try for them tomorrow and Saturday.
This excellent fall fishery should continue through October. Weather will determine how well we can set up for them
