Captain Ron Westrate of CoHooker Charters reports from Saugatuck:

Another good week of fishing in Saugatuck with good catches of Lake Trout in 100 foot of water and some salmon and steelhead showing up in 180 to 240 foot of water. The lake trout fishing is still good but not as consistent as in the last few weeks, with catches of 10 to 18 fish per trip with some more salmon showing up in the catch. The silver fish are showing up in the deeper water with some very good catches of up to 20 fish. This fishing is not consistent and you catch them one day and then struggle the next.

If you are planning on fishing the 100 foot depth, go with the Silver Horde metal flashers (silver and yellow) with Green Dude Rapture flies and green spin n glows on the downriggers and low divers. We ran silver Pro Troll flashers and Rapture Oceana, Blue Fern and Wild Fern on the high divers and on the 400 copper and these produced the silver fish along with more Lake Trout. In the deeper water the fish were in the top 60 foot of water consisting of 8-23 lb. salmon and steelhead up to 14 lbs. 200 FOW to 275 FOW. Lots of blue: blue veggie, flying dutchman, blue thunder, dr. hook stinger and stingray sizes. This is the first plug bite with chart. with blue splatter back Ace-Hi. Other boats caught fish on no-see-um flies behind chart. with glow flashers. Hopefully these are the salmon and steelhead we’ve been waiting for, now moving in from middle of the lake.

Captain Ed Stowe of Stowaway Charters reports from Ludington:

The fishing has slowed down in the last week. If you have Flea-flicker rods now is the time to use them. The fleas are as bad as ever with the warm water. The salmon are elusive and the bite is early in the AM if at all. The temperature at the point is 62 on the surface and 58 down 95 ft. The fish are spread all over the water column. Meat rigs are the baits of choice, with spinnies and flies a close second. 300 and 400 coppers and low wire divers from 175′ back to 275′ are also producing. Best fishing is from the Project up to the three bears in from 100 ft out to the 4400 numbers. 2, 3, 5, 7, and 10 cores tipped with the standard steelie baits and dolphins on the riggers and divers are all working out in the deep waters.

Good Fishin…..Capt Ed

Capt. Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:

Lake Trout fishing is still on the slow side but some are being taken North of the harbor using the dodgers with spin and glows close to the bottom. Best colors are green with orange and red, and white with pink dots. Try clean spoons off the downriggers. Fish 50 foot down to the bottom for best results. Start fishing in 65 feet of water and work your way out to the deeper water of 110 to 120 feet.

Steelhead fishing is fair. Fish the color lines for best results. Put out some 5, and 10 color lead lines on the boards, bright colors of spoons regular and magnum sizes are working best fishing North of the harbor in 75 to 120 feet of water

Some coho and an occasional king salmon continue to be taken North of the harbor. Try fishing the clean spoons off the downriggers 25 to 60 feet down. Best colors are the chrome or black with colored dots, gold with orange color, green, and black. Don’t forget to put down some dodgers or flashers with flys off the downriggers or dipsey divers as well. Start in 65 feet of water and work out till you find where they are setting. Don’t fish too deep or you will be under them, they are still coming up high.

Bass and Pike are being taken using spoons and body baits in close to shore. You will want to keep clear of the harbor this weekend because of the jet ski races.

Brown Trout will be in close to shore. Work the 45 to 65 foot of water areas South of the harbor. Body baits and clean spoons will be the lures of choice, try the perch, orange, yellow and green, and silver colors.

Try for perch South by the cemetery using minnows in 30 to 40 feet of water. If the water is clear move deeper.

A few walleye are being taken North of the harbor near Port Hope working in close to shore, 30 to 65 feet of water. Clean small spoons or crawler harnesses are working.

Enjoy the Maritime Festival this weekend!
