Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

Perch fishing has been from Turtle Island all the way up to Bolles Harbor. Fish between the Consumers plant and Turtle Island in 10 feet of water - Out in front of Toledo Beach Marina in around 13 feet of water. You will find some Jumbo's around E-Buoy and on the sides of some of the humps in the dumping grounds - usually when you find them they are big - don't venture to far out the fish are moving closer to shore. Start short and work your way out
Emerald shiners still seem to be the preferred bait
We have been catching lots of smallmouth bass over the dump and in front of the Homrich mansion in 13 to 15 feet of water and 15 to 17 feet on the humps.
Perch fishing for smallmouth bass video
Don't get greedy if you end up in Ohio water the ODNR has been patrolling everyday and passing out tickets for "over fish" like candy on Halloween. They will board you, count your fish, and just a few over - can cost everybody on the boat $250.00 plus $20.00 a fish over
The last couple of days we have had a north east blow and the lake has gotten dirty so you will have to get to deeper water to be successful.
If you don't get-em move!!!

Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

Perch fishing has been off the hook the last couple of weeks. There has not been a place on the lake we have not caught perch.
Along the Raisin River buoys, Stoney Point in 20 feet of water, Sputnik and the Platform have produced coolers full. Don't be afraid to stop short in shallow water in front of where you launch. I caught a cooler full at W buoy in front of Toledo Beach in 13 feet of water. Start shallow and work your way out. If your not getting them right away move, sometimes only 500 yards will do the trick. Emerald shiners seem to be the preferred live bait.
The ODNR has been checking every boat they come across. Make sure you have a valid Ohio license if you venture over the boarder and don't be tempted to take more than you limit. The fines can be up to $250.00 and $20.00 per perch over your limit of 30.

The lake has been very muddy with all the run-off from the recent storms. The water is warming. Look for a water stain line with a color change. There has been a massive debris area from Luna Pier all the way to the Platform and from the lighthouse to E-buoy. Many logs, trees, sticks, even a plastic driveway culvert. A number of propellers were ruined Friday and Saturday. Fishing will improve as the lake clears. We have have had to travel as far as Davis Bessi to find fish-able water. As the lake cleans it-self up fishing will take place closer to shore

Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

Perch fishing was very good for some yesterday. We fished between Little Cedar Point and the water intake. Fishing was slow but the fish seemed to be the largest near the water intake in about 16 feet of water.
The best fishing we saw yesterday was in front of Bolles Harbor in 18 feet of water and off the East corner of the dump in the flats. A couple of boats smashed - em while others sat and waited for a bite. We moved 8 times, caught fish every stop but never hit the mother load. The fish seem to be in tight schools so if you don't land on them keep moving. Some of the schools seem to peter out after an hour or so - don't waste your time after the bite slows - Move!

Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

Lot's of "Doubles"!!!!!!
Perch fishing has been very good lake wide
Both sides of the shipping channel near the Platform in 22 feet of water has been very fast but the fish seem to average 7 and 8 inch's
In front of Bolles Harbor in 14 to 18 feet of water has been productive.
In front of Luna Pier in 12 to 14 feet of water has produced some large perch along with some areas around "E" Buoy
West of the "Water Intake" in 14 feet of water has been the best for me for the past 4 day's - fish have averaged 9 plus inch's
Best bet is to start near shore in 11 plus feet of water and work your way out. The fish seem to be in tight schools so if you don't land on them keep moving. Some of the schools seem to peter out after an hour or so - don't waste your time after the bite slows - Move!!

Ohio upped it’s limit to 30 perch per angler this season – Michigan still remains at 50 per angler

The yellow perch are starting to more inshore!
Limit catch's can be found off the #1 Buoy off the River Rasin, Stoney Point in 20 to 25 feet of water.
Fishing has picked up near the Water Intake in 14 to 20 feet of water. One sure bet is the 2nd set of cans north of the Lighthouse in 17 feet of water. I moved 4 times today off of Stoney Point to find a good school, but when we found the school we put a couple of hundred in the box in no time. Emerald shiners seemed to out perform the Golden shiners but once the bite was on it didn't matter! Most of the perch averaged in size from 7" to 10" with a couple of jumbo's.
Best bet is to start near shore in 15 plus feet of water and work your way out. The fish seem to be in tight schools so if you don't land on them keep moving. Some of the schools seem to peter out after an hour or so - don't waste your time after the bite slows - Move!!

Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

This past week was rough on the lake but perch fishing was very productive
Sunday the Lake was on fire! Limit catchs everywhere.
Some of the best fishing was near "E" buoy - had to move a few times, but the fish where on the large side.
In front of Bolles Harbor in 14' of water many anglers took limits.
Some of the charter boats are still running way out, but many have found good fish closer to home.
Good bets are still Turtle Island area in 9 to 12 feet of water, the 2nd set of cans north of the Lighthouse on the Michigan side of the ditch
Just off the "Platform on the Ohio side of the channel has been producing a mixed bag.

Most of the bait shops have a fair supply on emerald shiners, but call ahead, some of the shops are mixing in chubs with the emeralds.

Luna Pier Harbor Club Marina has "Golden Shiners" which are very good alternative to emerald shiners. The Goldies are much more tolerant of warm water and will for a day or two if kept cool and aerated.

Ohio upped it’s limit to 30 perch per angler this season – Michigan still remains at 50 per angler

Captain John Giszczak of Stray Cat Charters reports from Luna Pier:

Perch fishing has been very productive despite the hot weather
Fishing has been very good early in the day around Turtle Island with many limit catchs of 8 and 9 inch perch
Limit catchs of larger perch (up to 12") are being caught around Sputnik using emerald shiners in 20 to 23 feet of water. Drop shot rigs seem to work the best. #4 gold hooks and a 3/4 ounce sinker
Best bet is to get out there early before the heat sets in.
The Toledo water intake has also been producing limit catchs of 7 to 12 inch perch
If your willing to do some traveling and spend some time looking - the "Big Boy's have been coming from, up on the Canada boarder near Middle Sister Island in 30 plus feet of water

Most of the bait shops have a fair supply on emerald shiners, but call ahead, some of the shops are mixing in sand shiners and chubs with the emeralds.
Ohio upped it's limit to 30 perch per angler this season - Michigan still remains at 50 per angler
