Captain Terry Walsh of Termar Charters reports from AuGres:

The weather gods finally cooperated and gave us a beautiful June day for walleye trolling on Saginaw Bay. The fish responded instantly and continued to do so throughout the six hour trip. We boated 17 and returned four to grow another inch. Most of the fish were in the 21-inch class and in beautiful condition. The water temperature was only 63.2 F and the fish were not real aggressive, resulting in a lot of “nipped” crawlers and missed fish. Boats fishing anywhere from 14 feet out to 30 feet of water from AuGres as far south as Standish (Eagle’s Landing area) generally had good catches today. There are a lot of NETS south of Pt. AuGres and some are not marked as well as they should be, so be watchful trolling in these waters.

I heard of very few fish caught on anything other than crawler harnesses, and SLOW was the rule: 1.3 to 1.5 mph. We stuck with in-line weights 35 to 45 feet back, but a number of anglers were using bottom bouncers very successfully.

If the weather stays warm, expect the fishing to really start heating up!

Good luck and remember to take the kids fishing! Some of the best days of my life were spent fishing with my dad.

Capt. Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:

Steelhead fishing is still spotting but should continue to get better with some warmer weather finally here. Best colors have been bright colors of orange, pinks, greens and yellows. Try running some long lines with the Offshore boards with clean spoons. Try some 2, 5, and 8 color lead lines as well. Try to find the color lines and fish them.

Lake Trout fishing continues to be very good straight out and North of the harbor. The clean spoons off the downriggers, and flashers or dodgers with flys or spin and glows close to the bottom are still working well. Fish 45 foot down to the bottom for best results. Best colors have been white, purple, pinks, green, and black. Start fishing in 75 feet of water and work your way out to the deeper water.

Lake Trout fishing continues to be very good straight out and North of the harbor. The clean spoons off the downriggers, and flashers or dodgers with flys or spin and glows close to the bottom are still working well. Fish 40 foot down to the bottom for best results. Best colors have been purple, pinks, green, blue, and black. Start fishing in 80 feet of water and work your way out to the deeper water.

Steelhead fishing is spotting but should continue to get better with some warmer weather finally here. Try running some long lines with the Offshore boards with clean spoons. Best colors have been bright colors of orange, pinks, greens and yellows. You can run some three ways with a body bait on the bottom and spoon on the top or try some 2, 5, and 8 color lead lines as well. Try to find the color lines and fish them.

Brown Trout are still being taken in close to shore working the 25 to 45 foot of water areas South of the harbor. Body baits and clean spoons are working, try perch, green, and blue colors.

Some salmon continue to be taken South, straight out and North of the harbor. For best results, fish clean spoons off the downriggers 45 to 85 feet down. Good colors have been silver, greens, black, glows, and blues. Also try some flashers with flys off the dowriggers or dipsey divers as well. Start in 65 feet of water and work out till you find where they are setting.

If you want to try for some walleye try North of the harbor working in close to shore, 30 to 60 feet of water. Clean small spoons or crawler harnesses should work.

Try for the perch by the lighthouse or South by the cemetery using minnows in 20 to 30 feet of water.

Keep those lines tight!

Captain .Dick Rang from Lake and Stream Charters reports from Alpena

Lake Trout fishing is excellent off Thunder Bay. Great catches of larger fish have been the norm. Leadcore, dipsey divers, etc. it doesn’t matter. The water is very cold from 41 to 46 degrees on the surface!

Spoons and flashers and flies are working well in 40 to 50 feet of water. Green and white combos are working. Steel head are slow but will pick up. No bugs up here yet, some steelhead are still in the river spawning.
