Saginaw Bay – A few perch were caught along the shipping channel and up the old shipping channel. Boats were lucky to get 5 to 8 keepers. Boat anglers vertical jigging with jigs or spoons baited with minnows are taking a few walleye at the mouth of the Saginaw River. One nice perch was caught off Quanicassee when fishing in 30 feet of water out near the end of the shipping channel,

According to the MDNR

Cheboygan River – Fish have been caught from the mouth all the way up to the Cheboygan Dam.

Ocqueoc River – Salmon can be found throughout the river system. Try spawn, flies, spoons, body baits or plugs.

Rogers City – A few boats anchored in the bay had limited success when casting Cleo’s and fire-tiger body baits. There should be some silver fish in 40 to 70 feet of water. Pier and shore fishing was slow. Anglers are reminded of the spawning closure on the Swan River.

Alpena – Boating traffic has ceased for the most part. Shore anglers might still find a few walleye near the launch or the marina.

Thunder Bay River – Has been seeing all the action. The bite is slow but the salmon that have been caught are larger than last year measuring 28 to 30 inches. Shore anglers have been taking chinook on rubber eggs, flies, and rattletraps. Blue and silver or black and chrome were good colors. Pink flies have also taken fish. Boat anglers caught fish on Hot-n-Tots. A few pink salmon were also caught.

There have been some reports of some very nice size Salmon taken out in the 160 to 175 foot of water areas. Try some Spin Doctors and Action Flys and magnum size spoons off the downriggers or try the Dipsey Divers back 125 to 225 feet. Try black with glow ovals, gold colors, or the green or blue alewive colors. Also try some of those J-Plugs.

Lake Trout fishing is still very good. Try fishing straight out and North of the harbor. Fishing 80 to 100 feet of water first thing in the morning, then move out to 105 to 130 feet of water. The dull silver dodgers with the green body and white wings or the white with pink dots and white wing, spin and glows

Try using the dull silver dodgers with the green body and white wings or the white with pink dots and white wing, spin and glows, fishing close to the bottom. If the fishing is slow try using some plain spoons down 80 feet off the downriggers

These were some of the nicest fish I’ve seen this summer–real tournament fish! Crawler harnesses behind two-ounce inline sinkers run 100 feet back behind planer boards were getting the job done.
The shallow waters south of AuGres really produced some excellent walleye fishing all weekend. Ten to 13-feet was magic, but some anglers fished even shallower. It wasn’t hard finding fish as the large numbers of boats in a given area was a dead give away! We ran Rattle Tots on one side of the TERMAR and Wally Pops on the other, both producing equally well. Purple and chartreuse Wally Pops’ ….
