Captain Ed Stowe of Stowaway Charters reports from Ludington:

The north winds continue to blow, but when we can get out we are catching 2 and 3 year old Kings, Steelhead, Lake Trout and Cohos. Fishing is best on the bank from the brinewell to the three bears in from 120' out to 180' of water. Best fishing is in the top 70 ft. 5 cores, 7 and 10 cores, 300 and 350 coppers are all producing. Meat rigs on the low wires is a good setup right now. The pierheads are very slow because most of the salmon have gone up the river to spawn, although there are steelhead showing up. Some boats are casting ping a tees at the mouth of the river and having some success. The Pere Marquette River has salmon in it all the way up to Baldwin. Best times to fish the river are early AM and just before dark at night. Flatfish, Ping a Ts, and Storm Fire Tigers are top producers in the river.

Fishing is slowing down with all the North and Northeast winds of the past two weeks in Ludington right now. The offshore fishery from the 3800#s out to the 4600#s is productive right now. 2 and 3 year old Kings, Steelhead, Lake Trout and Cohos are all out there. The pierheads are slowing down because most of the salmon have gone up the river to spawn. PM lake is also slowing down. Some boats ar casting fire tigers at the mouth of the river and having some success. The Pere Marquette River has salmon in it all the way up to Baldwin. Fishing is as good as it gets in Ludington right now. From the project up to the three bears the bite is on. We are catching salmon in from 30' of water out to 200 ft of water. The meat rigs that were so hot a week ago are giving way to J-plugs and Ace high plugs in the different Splatterback patterns. Dreamweaver Spindoctors with Blue Bubble flies and Green Crinkle flies are working well right now. On the point the water temp is 68 on the surface and 45 degrees down 50 ft. The secret weapon with a plug is doing very well right now. The offshore fishery has slowed down in the last few days The pierheads are best from early morning and then again just before dark at night. PM lake is doing very good with some nice catches on J-plugs. The Pere Marquette River has salmon in it all the way up to Baldwin. Fishing is on again at the point. It doesnt seem to matter what bait to use as long as its a meat rig. Meat rigs in just about any patterns are taking fish. 150, 250 and 300 cores and low wire divers from 80'back to 110', and high wires from 120' to 140' are also producing. The secret weapon with a plug is doing very well right now. Some boats are doing very well out in the 5600s out to the 4400s. There is a mixed bag of Kings, cohos, steelhead and some lake trout out there. The pierheads are best from early morning to just before dark at night. PM lake is doing very good with some nice catches on meat rigs. During the day the best fishing is from the 3500#s out to the 5500#s in the 5400#s up to the 0450#s.

Fishing is on again off again at the point. The good news is that after the AM bite just point the boat west and troll out to the 3800s out to the 5000s and the fish are there. There is a mixed bag of Kings, Cohos, Steelhead and an occasional Lake trout. Moonshine spoons are the baits of choice early, then spoons spinnies and meat rigs after the morning bite. Plugs are starting to heat up. 100 and 150 cores and low wire divers from 70'back to 90', and high wires from 120' to 130' are also producing. The secret weapon with a plug is doing very well right now. The pierheads are best from first light to dark at night. PM lake is doing very good with some nice catches on meat rigs. During the day the best fishing is from the 3500#s out to the 4900#s in the 5400#s up to the 0450#s.

Captain Ed Stowe of Stowaway Charters reports from Ludington:

Fishing is on again off again at the point. The good news is that after the AM bite just point the boat west and troll out to the 3800s out to the 5000s and the fish are there. There is a mixed bag of Kings, Cohos, Steelhead and an occasional Lake trout. Moonshine spoons are the baits of choice early, then spoons spinnies and meat rigs after the morning bite. Plugs are starting to heat up. 100 and 150 cores and low wire divers from 70′back to 90′, and high wires from 120′ to 130′ are also producing. The secret weapon with a plug is doing very well right now. The pierheads are best from first light to dark at night. PM lake is doing very good with some nice catches on meat rigs. During the day the best fishing is from the 3500#s out to the 4900#s in the 5400#s up to the 0450#s.

       Good Fishin…..Capt Ed

Capt. Drew Morris, of Margie J Sport Fishing Charters out of Muskegon, reports:

Fishing out of Muskegon has been fantastic for the past several days and should continue. Some nice size 4 year olds being taken between the arms out to about 60 fow but the best fishing has been deeper. From 100 to 140 has been the best as of late with catch numbers in the high teens and low twenties not uncommon. We have also been doing well between 200 & 280 fow. We have been taking nice 8-10 pound kings with 20+ pounders mixed in along with some nice steelhead and cohos.

Despite being quite rough the last few days the key seems to be a fast troll with and against the wave action. Going with the waves has been a little better for us than against them. Speeds up to 3.5 mpg sog have been the most productive or 3.3 mph at the bait. When it’s rough and if you have trolling bags run them. They will keep your speed a little more consistent against and with the waves.

Spoons on riggers and copper have been the most productive. Spoons include Stinger Pox, Blue Bubble, Black Screw Ball, Steelie Stomper, Gin & Tonic, Trophy Winner, and Blue Monkey Puke w/ glow tape. Flashers include Stinger’s NBK flasher w/ green/glow Hypnotist Rapture Fly. We have been running it on both our high divers at 120 &140 back on 3 and have been hot. On the low divers run small white flashers w/ frosted fern trolling fly. We have also been taking our biggest kings on the 11 inch scallop white flasher with the Rapture Oceana Fly down 100-125 deep on our shoot rigger. It has taken several kings over 20 pounds.

The best depths have been 25-55 down. Run your core, copper, dipseys and riggers in that depth range with the exception of 125 shoot rigger and hang on for some excellent action.

Good Luck… Capt. Drew

The fishing is as good as it has been all season long. The water has cooled down and the fish are in the skinny waters at the point. There are also good numbers of salmon at the pierheads, and in front of the Lincoln. The salmon are in Pere Marquette Lake and the Pere Marquette River. Moonshine spoons are the baits of choice, with spinnies and flies and Plugs a close second. 100 and 150 coppers and low wire divers from 40' back to 60' are also producing. 3 colors, 4 colors and the secret weapon with a plug is doing very well right now. The pierheads are best from first light to dark at night. During the day the best fishing is from the 3500#s out to the 4300#s in the 5400#s up to the 5800#s.
