ENERGY AND WATER” BILL TO BRING SIGNIFICANT HABITAT IMPROVEMENTS TO THE GREAT LAKES

Congress provides, and the president accepts, additional funds for the “Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration Program”

ANN ARBOR, MI—The Great Lakes Fishery Commission today commended Congress and the president on the passage and signing into law of the fiscal 2010 Energy and Water Appropriations bill, legislation that funds essential water projects throughout the United States. The bill, signed October 28th, 2009, includes $2.4 million for the Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration Program (GLFER), a program authorizing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to partner with state and local agencies or private groups to implement projects that protect and restore habitat, fisheries, and the Great Lakes ecosystem.

According to the MDNR

Some yellow perch have been caught however many of the fish are small. Boat anglers are fishing off the 400 Club and Gino’s. Bluegill and crappie were caught in the canals off Metro Beach.

09/15/2009 Lake St. Clair Fishing Report

Captain Tom Arlington from North Bay Charters reports from Lake St. Clair

Who said the fishing is over after Labor Day ? Perch fishing continues to be the best fishing opportunity for those that want lots of action and great food for the family. The best action is in deep water. Find the perch weeds which look like green moss. The perch in these weeds are feeding heavy on snails, crayfish, and newly hatched minnows. Come along and I’ll show you the difference in the different weed beds found on Lake St. Clair.

Bass and Perch fishing is still in full swing. Tournament bass are being caught along the shipping channel and schoolies can be found ofF the hump. Bass are starting to migrate in the channels now.

Tom Arlington from North Bay Charters reports from Lake St. Clair: says “Musky – Musky – fish – on are the battles cries aboard the North Bay”… Musky fishing reaches its yearly pinnacle in the fall, and if your look’in for a trophy fish there is no better place then Lake St. Clair. Perch fishing remains good. Try to drift when the bite slows down. Good spots are off the Grosse Point 8 mile Rd., the Belle River hump, and deep water of St Lukes, Ontario.
