fishing reports northern lake Michigan 7/7/2015
Capt. Eric Andersen from Andersen Charters at Frankfort, MI reports….The word is “Steelhead ” lots of Steelhead. The last week ,week and a half…the offshore thermo break fishing has been super…We have been averaging 30 to 35 fish on the “hook” and around 15 to 18 fish to the net…This is all on a 1/2 day charter .To average 5 fish “on” per hour hour is really great fishing in my book.
Steelhead are hitting small Stinger small spoons and Warrior flutter spoons in orange/silver color combos.. while running a fairly fast troll using planerboards .This fishery should last until around mid July or until the big lake warms up accross the entire lake..Temp breaks have went from 54 clear down to 39 degrees along these breaks or slicks in less than a mile while making a troll west out of Frankfort.
Charters out of Frankfort,Glen Arbor and Leland are doing limit catches of Lake Trout along with a few King Salmon.
The Kings will show up in greater number in the next several weeks…usually by July 15th to 20th they’re off our port in decent numbers..
Also.. everyone…check out our MCBA Facebook page on the net..we have reports on real time fishing as well as pictures showing current catches of various game fish by people fishing on our member Capts.charter boats
