Captain Steve Hamilton of First Class Charters reports from Manistee.
Lots of wind and rain the past few days. Boats that have been able to fish
are going to the Point and fishing the Shoreline out to 100 Feet. of water.

Mainly using Carmel and Blue dolphins for Lures.

Some smaller boats fishing Manistee Lake for pan fish.

*In the next week a survey should be done on the status of the Commercial
fishing nets out on the Lake.
At this time the old card back to July 9,2009 is the most current!
Hopefully more information on the net locations and any changes over the
winter should be forth coming in the next 10 days.

Capt. Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:
The weather has the lake pretty well mixed up right now. It will take a
few days for it to straighten back up again and for the fish to settle
back in. If the weather settles and the winds stay down, you will want
to start fishing in close to shore and work your way out to the deeper
water till you find the fish. They tend to go deep when the lake is on
the rough side.

Fishing has been very good and lots were being taken before the high
winds. When the winds go down, try fishing some medium size spoons and
body baits off the Offshore boards and downriggers, blues, silvers,
blacks and greens should work well. Don’t forget to get those bright
colors out to try for some Steelhead as well. Dodgers and spin and
glows off the bottom for Lake Trout should also be tried. They will be
hungry so hand on to those rods!

Keep those lines tight!

Capt. Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:
Lake Trout fishing continues to be good straight out, South and North of
the harbor working the 30 to 60 foot of water areas. Try medium size
spoons and body baits off the downriggers and Offshore boards for best
results. Best colors have been blue, silver, purple, and yellow.

Salmon have still been being taken mixed in with the Lake Trout on the
same lures and colors.

Put out some bright colors off the boards to try for some of those
Steelhead.

Brown Trout have been in the shallow water on small spoons and body
baits using the longer lines and boards.

Keep those lines tight,

Captain Ron Westrate of CoHooker Charters reports from Saugatuck:

The shallow water fishing (12-20 foot of water) is slowing and the fish and some bait are showing up in 130 to 150 foot of water. We did catch a couple of brown trout along the shore line on Sunday, however the fishing was slow and we turned it west. Fishing south of the Saugatuck piers we marked good fish and some bait in that 130 foot range. We did catch a lake trout and a couple of small salmon on half core with green dolphin and fruit cocktail stingers. The picture looks good in this depth and word from the South Haven fishermen indicates that they are beginning to pick up coho and chinook in the 130 foot depth.
Walleye are still being caught in the Kalamazoo river from the I 196 bridge into Kalamazoo Lake.

Lake Trout fishing is excellent with some nice catches being taken in 35
to 60 feet of water straight out and North of the harbor, on spoons and
body baits. Best colors have been blues, greys, and chartreuse.

Salmon have been taken mixed in along with the Lake Trout in 30 to 60
feet of water South, straight out and a little North of the harbor. Try
some regular and magnum size spoons and body baits off the Offshore
boards and the downriggers for best results. Blues, greens, puples, and
silver colors have been working well.

If you want to try for some Brown Trout, move in close to shore with
long lines and boards, just be careful of those big rocks in there!
Body baits and medium size spoons in the silver and blue and perch
colors should get good results. Keep those lines back from the boat in
the shallower water.

Keep those lines tight,

Captain Ron Westrate of CoHooker Charters reports from Saugatuck:
Once again we have had high winds and rough water on the big lake,
however if you can get out the fishing is fairly good. Fishing in 12 to
18 foot of water is producing some very good brown trout with an
occasional steelhead, chinook salmon and lake trout. The best method are
small stingers (blue/green dolphin and fruit cocktail) pulled 30 to 100
foot behind the downrigger. Two color lead core and flat-lines with
stick baits (gold and red in color) producing some steelhead and small
salmon.

People are catching walleye in the Kalamazoo river between the bridges
and north of the Blue Star bridge. Steelhead fishing in the river was
reported as slow.
