Capt. Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:

Lake Trout fishing has slowed with all of the passing storms. You will want to try fishing in the deeper water North, South and straight out of the harbor. Try the Dodgers and Spin and glows fished right down on the bottom. Try medium and large size spoons off the downriggers as well. Try purple, pink, yellow, green, and black colors. Work the 60 to 150 foot of water areas.
There should still be Salmon mixed in with the Lake Trout try using medium and magnum size spoons off the boards and downriggers from 40 to 70 foot down in 60 to 150 feet of water. Try adding Tadpole weights with spoons off the Offshore boards to get the lines down deeper.
<>Steelhead should be out on the color lines in 60 to 150 feet of water, try the new Offshore Tadpoles on with your monofilament lines to get them down deeper. Use the bright colors for best results.
Perch fishing is slow, you might try South of the harbor by the cemetery in 25 to 50 feet of water with minnows.
Walleye fishing will be slow till the water clears a little, try off the North wall early morning and late evening casting small body baits and spoons. Try the green, purple, silver and blue colors. Also try trolling out in the areas where the water starts to clear in 50 to 70 foot of water North of the harbor with crawler harnesses, small spoons and small body baits.

Some nice Bass and Pike are still being taken inside the harbor and close to shore casting small body baits and spoons.

Captain Ron Westrate of CoHooker Charters reports from Saugatuck:

Even dodging storms and high winds through out the week, the fishing was
good with 6 to 12 fish per trip. The creel consisted of chinook salmon
pushing 20 pounds, lake trout weighing up to 14 pounds and steelhead,
coho and even an occasional brown trout. The best fishing continues to
be the 90 to 120 foot of water depth, however there are also fish in in
the 135 to 160 foot depth. With the full moon, the bite is best in the
mid to late morning and early evening.

The best lures for us are the 11 in Hot Chip and Pro Chip flashers
(green/glow, white/glow and white/mountain dew) with Rapture flies
(purple No See Ums, green Hypnotist, Green Dude and Frosted Fern). We
are pulling these on the downriggers from 60 foot to the bottom and wire
dipsy divers at 200 foot and 250 foot out. 200 and 300 copper have
produced some nice steelhead and brown trout with Craig’s Christmas and
the orange Corey Stingrays and 400 foot of copper (also 400 foot with 2
oz dive bomb) are producing with 8 in white bladed flashers and Green
Dude flies.

The perch report is good with limit catches south of the Saugatuck
harbor from 60 to 70 foot of water. It is difficult to fish this deep
water however the report is they are catching 10 to 14 in perch.
Yesterday there was some very good catches of perch in 20 foot of water
south of the piers. These were not as big as the deep water perch but
avg. 6 to 8 in.

Reports from Holland to South Haven is good fishing from mid morning to
noon and from 6 PM until dark. If the weather cooperates, we should hold

Captain Ed Stowe of Stowaway Charters reports from Ludington:

The fishing has moved north to the point for the most part, from the 00’s to the 0550’s. Thats the good news, the bad news is that with all of the South and Southwest winds of the past week the water temps have warmed up dramatically. And with the warm waters the Sea Fleas have EXPLODED. Fishing has changed from high in the water column to fishing very deep in the column. Add to this that its a very early bite and the fishing becomes a challenge. For starters if youve got flea-flicker line now is the time to use it, if not now might be the time to invest in some. The temp was 60 degrees at 80′ this AM. Riggers from 70 to 125′ ft down with moonshine early and then big rotators later. Rotators and big paddles with meatless teasers or meat on the wire divers from 175′ out to 230′. Cores, core and a half, 300 coppers and 400 coppers with mag spoons in Blue dolphin, raspberry carbon, yellowtails, Bad Toads all took fish. Good Fishin….Capt Ed

Fishing Sister Islands with Minnie Discs and Jet Divers 110 to 120 Back with Spoons. 29 to 30 feet of water. Running Big Discs 55 to 60 Back.
Good numbers of fish, but alot of throw backs. Trolling at 2.5 to 2.8. Water temperature 74 degrees

Saturday was a interesting, expensive and rough morning on the water. As we came out of the harbor the seas were running about 3 foot and we set lines in 60 foot of water and trolled out to 120 foot of water. It was 9:30 before we had our first hit and good size salmon on 400 foot of copper with a mixed veggie Pro Troll and purple Rapture No See Um fly, which we lost after a short fight. Our first fish was a lake trout on a the same set up on a low diver on the bottom. From 10:00 to 12:00 we had 12 or 13 fish on and only boated 3 with the seas building to 6 foot. Along with loosing fish we broke off and lost 200 foot of copper, 300 foot of copper and a dipsy diver rig and wire line that the salmon ran out to 450 foot. An expensive outing.
Almost ever hit came on silver flashers (silver green, silver mixed veggie, silver blue) and Green Dude and purple No See Um flies. We did have a couple of steelhead hit the Craigs Reverse Christmas on 100 copper (caught one and lost one), other wise every hit was on flashers and flies.
We did find bait in 60 foot of water, however the salmon and trout appear to be in the 80 to 100 foot of water. I think that if you get out at sunrise, you could take them in the shallower water but then most of the action will be just outside the bait.
