Captain Dick Stafford of Take Five Charters reports from the U.P Lake Michigan and Superior:

Upper Peninsula Waters of Lake Michigan

Dick Nelson holds up two salmon caught by him while fishing out at Whaleback Shoals off of Cedar RiverSalmon continue to be excellent off Escanaba around the Ford River Can Area.  Good numbers are being reported out from Cedar River and Manistique.  Most fish have been averaging between 14 – 18 pounds while occasional 20 pounders are being landed.

Walleye fishing is somewhat down due to both mayflies hatching and alewives coming into the bay.  However, charters are still catching fish.  Better fishing for walleye is being done at night in low-light conditions.  Cranks have been doing well in many locations.  Walleye are still being caught in the open waters of Green Bay just south of Escanaba.  Fishermen using harnesses   are also doing well around structure swuch as banks and weeds.  Shoals are also good places to find some of the real lunkers.

Check with local charters for availability and openings.  Local charters know the waters much better than those claiming to know.  The  Michigan Charter Boat Sticker displayed on the boat means that the boat has been inspected and is safe.  These boat can be trusted.  There is no place better than Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
