Jim J Karr – MCBA Drug Czar
Q. Do I need to be in a Random Drug Screening Program ………………?? Many have asked the question as to what is required of them when renewing their license as to being in a drug screening program.
A. When renewing your license you must be in a random drug screening program and included a letter from the consortium in which you’re a member of with your renewal packet. If you’re obtaining a license for the first time this applies to you too.
It is not required that a licensed mariner be enrolled in a random program to renew their license if they aren’t operating. It is required that they show proof of a negative DOT drug test included in their application for renewal. This information comes from 46CFR16.220 and 46CFR10.227. If anyone is experiencing problems I suggest that they contact the REC at 419-418-6013 or if you want to email earl.m.bibee@uscg.mil.
You will need your name and social security number or the application number (should be on the letter received from NMC) and someone from the REC will look into what is happening with your application
